Actually, I have been told that a black snake will kill the poison snakes if they get together. Dont know if this is true or not. I have never had a problem keeping black snakes around my house because of this, however, if a poison snake strikes your chicken, it will let it die and it will come back to eat it and this could take a day or two. My guess would be that your chickens were killed by the poison snakes. Also, a weasel will kill your chickens. If this happens again, look behind the head under the feathers for snake-like piercings, if you find them, it is a weasel and he will try and get them all. There are many things worse for your birds than a black snake. They will usually just eat your eggs and go away.
