Hi you guys!! So, about a year ago I made a black soldier fly (BSF) composter to have them eat our veggie waste and get some great grubs out of it for my frogs. Well, now I have chickens and so I am going to use it to get grubs for my chickens:)

I think they make up 30% fat and 70% protein! Great for our chickens!!

Here is one of my very 1st harvest!

Here is the playlist of some of my harvest so you guys can see it works great!

I have a very healthy population of Soldier flies in my worm beds and will transplant a bunch of grubs to my new flower beds this season.

I am happy you liked it!!

The cool thing about this device is the black soldier flies self harvest!! Once they're done eating your compost they come to the top to get out of the compost to find a place to pupate. So in this bucket composter if you notice I have a funnel that they crawl up and out of the bucket and they fall straight into a collecting bin:)

I am thinking about connecting this to my chicken coop and having the top of that tube connect straight to their feeding trough so they can get fresh food almost daily that is packed with nutrition. The grubs are fed all of my vegetable waste that came straight from my garden that is organic and is not genetically modified (no GMO's).

My grubs are getting the best food, which in turn my chickens are getting the best food, which in turn my family is getting the best quality of food I can give them:)

I always have something going on! LoL!! See all my playlist below and you will see what I'm talking about;)

I was thinking about what you said about getting the BSF larvae out of your worms. It's going to be lots of work! I was trying to think up a BSF larvae trap. Something to get them to come out of the compost and so I made two videos of my idea about a year ago.

Hope these are helpful:)

Not much work mat2dong. I just scoop out a bucket of worm bed material which is loaded with worms and larvae

I used to screen the stuff first, but that seemed to be too much work

Ah:) Let the girls do the work? I got it! LOL! Why did I not think of that?

Thanks for sharing your experience with the bucket composter mat2dong. I think most people have a tendency to over feed any size BSF unit, but you operated it very well it seems.
