My 6 month old BA hen has developed a black spot on her comb. It's similar to a beauty mark or mole. Is there any reason to be concerned? She is fine otherwise.

I don't have a picture right now. I will try to take one. It is a raised spot not on the tip of the comb. thanks for helping me!

definatly need a pix. could be Pox or frostbite or just a peck from another hen

If cold weather isn't a problem that leaves two alternatives. Injury or fowl pox. If it's dried blood (looks black) it will wash off easily.

Is fowl pox a infestation like a flea or an illness?

Fowl pox is a virus - and actually acts a little like the human form of chicken pox. But in chickens, it's largely spread by mosquitoes. They get the lesions, and it runs its course, but it needs to be watched for wet pox (which can often be deadly) and secondary infections which can cause blindness or other obvious problems. Fowl pox can also be vaccinated for with little cost.

If your chicken had fowl pox, it would probably have more than one bump.
