black spots on chicken combs and waddles HELP HELP

It sounds like a form of chicken pox but its a poultry kind. Keep an eye on it but it should just go away.

As far as I know its not lethal. My birds have had that before and they are fine. It comes and goes but like I said just keep an eye on it.

Mine have this also. It does seem to come and go. I always thought
it was just dirt or chicken poo. It happens mostly to my leghorns.

Do I need to rub Iodine on the spots?
I am pretty sure its the pox.
Will they be able to get it agian, or do they only get it once?
How long will they have it?
How did my chickens get this, I feel so bad for them and I am awfully upset about it.

My chickens get black specks or spots on their combs from time to time and I know they are just scabs from small wounds. I've seen the injuries happen when they get scared and fly into the wire screening or something like that. They seem to injure their combs so easily. I see the little blood spots and later the black specks where the scabs form, so I know exactly what they are. However I've never seen black spots on their wattles. They don't usually injure those as easily.

My chickens are most definitely having fowl pox. Now that I've read that great link, I'll quit chasing them down and smearing neosporin on their combs and wattles!
