So, I was looking on here because several of my chickens and rooster have black spots on their cones that look like warts. I saw a thread that said they are called "foul pox" and are caused by mosquitoes. So these will go away on their own? How long does it usually take for them to go away?

Also, I am a little concerned because my rooster who just got them is still healing from a pretty bad wound on his stomach. The worst of it is over...I took him to the vet and have gotten rid of all the maggots and been treating his wound. Now I just have to keep it moisturized daily according to the vet and continue to keep him inside until his wound is fully healed (2-3 weeks) so it doesn't get re-infested with maggots. I am not sure how he could have gotten a mosquito bite because he has been crated inside the house in a closed room for 10 days, but I guess it's slightly possible a mosquito could have gotten in. Will he still continue to heal ok even with the "foul pox" if that's what it is? Thanks!!!

Flystrike then fowl pox...you are having fun huh?
Could you post a few pics of his comb please?

Pictures are important to distinguish fowl pox scabs which can be tan to dark brown, from peck wounds or injuries which tend to be black at first. Fowl pox is a virus spread by mosquitoes in hot weather, and usually lasts aound 2-3 weeks without any complications. Occasionally, wet pox, painful yellow patches inside the mouth and throat, can be a serious problem which may cause pain when eating or drinking.

Here's a couple of pictures of the rooster I am keeping inside for now. Let me know what you think. Thanks!
