My roosters cone turned purple today the whole cone. He is acting fine, eating, drinking, energy is fine. Breathing seems fine. I can't seem to catch him though because he runs away as usual.

Someone told me it could be from mosquitoes on fb but what I've read as this isnt a good sign. But wanted to hear others, it seems after about 5 minutes or so in the coop he was starting to go from purple slowly back to red but I have never seen a chickens full cone turn to purple.

Can you post a picure showing his comb when it looks purple? Also try getting hold of him at night after he goes to roost and it's fairly dark, then he won't run from you.

Did his comb become purple when you were chasing him?

If you can get photos of him without stressing him out too much that might be helpful.

Fowl Pox usually shows up as scabs/lesions on the combs/wattles, it doesn't necessarily make a comb turn purple it just looks scabby. You can take a look at the photos in the article below.

A comb that turns purple can be due to lack of oxygen or when a bird is under stress. Is he being stressed by something, chased about, is it really hot weather?
