I have a naked neck that is about six months old. She is our youngest chicken, but she is fierce and definitely not at the bottom of the food chain.

A few weeks ago, small black spots began showing up on her comb. I wasn't worried about them since it's super hot in Texas. I figured it wasn't rot from frostbite and didn't think of it anymore until my mom informed me it was spreading further.

Although she is the youngest hen, she is strong and one of our best layers with her big turken eggs! Definitely don't want to lose her.

I've read into fowl pox and it looks/sounds like what she has, though she is still energetic and far from depressed. I know to start giving her vitamins like vitamin E. Can I spray her comb with Vetercyn? Will it spread to my other hens (I have 10 hens total and 1 rooster)? Is there any prevention method other than vaccination?

Could be the start of pox or just peck marks or wounds. Doesn't look bad enough to do anything with.

When a bird get fowl pox they generally don't act any different unless the get the wet pox, which is in the mouth and throat. They just look bad.

Try to minimize mosquitoes which cause and spread the pox. Once a bird has had it they generally are immune to it.

My Blue Wyandotte, Grey, also has black dots that were not there in March. to have a few more now - August. She's only a little over a year old. Is that pox?

She seems to act normally. She's my alpha hen and her usual quiet self. although lately, her crop is softer at the end of the day and she hasn't been laying everyday since her last broody period was interrupted.

She's good looking, to me it just looks like seasonal wear and tear.
