Black Star Sex-linked pullet from Hatchery looks like Roo

Your barred rocks pullets are just soooo beautiful.

Voldy - I wish I can recall well - probably had bigger and pinker comb than your pullet pictures at that age.

The legs of all the chickens are the same thickness at this age. I rechecked today.

Who knows - maybe Voldy took some polyjuice potion to look like an innocuous egg-laying barred rock hen, hence evade the finality of the chop-chop.

No, it is a black star roo.

It has too red a comb to be BR hen. It is a male black star!

I should take a poll....

BUT seriously, you (and many others who responded) have a point that the comb is too pink. Unless BR pullets mature differently from sex-link pullets, I believe I do have a roo!

I can't let Voldy live to the point of egg-laying though, to find out for sure. I would be mortified if he crowed, and somehow taught the remaining dominant pullet that crowing is a necessary to maintain pecking order.

If my hens ever crow, I will have to place them on chop-chop status, and rename them Umbridge or Bellatrix

That's a BR hen.Red comb?I don't see a comb.

That is definately a Barred Rock hen.
Until Voldy crows(if ever,)assume it's a hen.

I know you're confused. It it a black star roo or a Br hen?

Let him/her live. That's the advice I can give you.
