Hello,

I ended up with an adult Black Sumatra hen at the end of our county fair, and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this breed. I've only kept OEGs until recently, and the Sumatra seems to be a very different sort of chicken. Specifically, do they tend to be aggressive with other birds?

Thanks for any help,
Hannah

I have owned sumatras for about a year and a half now. The roosters fight each other on occasion. But they're usually fine when they're free ranging. The hens are super nice. They never fight each other or any hens from my laying flock. And they're really broody. Two of my three hens went broody their first year. But now I have nine little sumatra chicks running around outside.

Thank you. Now that I've had a day to watch her around our other birds, she seems just fine, if not a tad spirited. Very sweet with people though.

It's a gorgeous breed, sort of feral looking.
