Black tailed red marans chicks

In going to bump an old thread to share a photo of my Red tailed black Maran from Cackle. He came out a bit special (we call him Oatmeal) but is a lovely bird. I confirmed that he is a black tailed red with the hatchery. Does anyone know what recessive genes would dilute the red like this?

Im not sure why yours would be olored that way. I'll post a few pics of mine. Ive been very pleased with this breed. Very good temperament and great layers of dark eggs. Their eggs are as dark as my black copper marans from all 3 bloodlines i have. Consistently lay 6-7 on the marans scale

They seem to have heavily feathered feet. I just wanted another breed that laid dark eggs and figured I would give them a try. There's very little info out there about this chicken. Not sure if it's a cross that is fairly new or not??
They're called "Fauve Acajou á Queue Noire" in french. They were accepted into the French Standard of Perfection in the early 1950's. There is a Facebook page if you're interested-"Black Tailed Red and Columbian Marans".

Thanks Bill, im really liking these birds. Great temperament, good layers of super dark eggs and easy on the eyes. I just hatched a few from the couple hens i have. Hoping to have a good stock by the end of summer
