One hatched today with a black back, yellow and white belly and face.
I don't have any other black coturnix, so I'm kinda wondering exactly how this happened. (?) lol

It's a dark range tux. Darker than I have ever seen, but there may be some sort of new mutation going on there, but most likely not.

Best of luck with your chicks, but don't really know what to tell you.

I had a lot of trouble getting him to hold still. He was almost solid black first day, I'm starting to see a very dark brown/reddish set of stripes down his back.
When he gets a little bigger I'll post some more pictures. His beak and feet are pink, so he looks a little different from the dark ranges I found pictures of, but maybe it's white part of the tux.

yeah hes a REAL dark ranged tux. neat bird would like to see pics of him in a few weeks...

I started out with just jumbo wild (pharaoh, I guess is what they call it) and white.
Soon after that I hatched a few that were darker, but just a dark brown,
figured they were range. Some of them looked reddish like a rosetta.
Then some range tuxedo hatched out, but nothing else I have comes close to black.
I've got one a day old that's a chocolate brown, which is what my "range" birds looked like when they were young.
I may need to put up some pictures of my stock so people have an idea of what I mean.

Here's a shot of the chocolate, the black tux, and a regular in my brooder. I can see faint reddish brown lines on the head and back now.
Sorry about the aspect, facebook auto turned it.
