Black walnut

Almost every single tree in my yard is a black walnut tree. haha its awful.
But I haven't ever had a problem with my chickens pecking at the hulls or anything and neither of them have ever been sick...

Black walnut hulls contain a herbicide that kills off competition from other forms of vegetation & trees. I suspect that is why so many communities are named "WALNUT GROVE" etc because there is or was nothing much but walnuts growing there.

We have been having quite a few drop lately too. Today there was a wind storm and it sounded like WW3 with all the walnuts landing on the roof of the coop LOL

But what was the strangest thing is last night hubby and I found one inside the coop. We have no idea how it would get in there. He looked to see if it could be possible one landed and bounced in thru the pop door but there is no that is possible. Dunno??
A squirrel might have decided that was a good spot to hide one.

The interesting thing about horses and walnuts is that it's actually walking on the leaves/bark/hulls that's really damaging, as the compounds in them leech into the soles of their hooves and can cause laminitis.
