black watermelon seeds for chickens?

Sorry for the confusion, I meant the tomato seeds. I've still not read any scientific information about tomato seeds in a ripe tomato or a ripe pepper being toxic, the way that green potato skins are toxic.

Per my earlier post/question, I've only read that green potato skins are toxic and/or unhealthy, for humans as well as chickens. I'll start cooking non-green skins prior to giving them to the chicks, just to be safe. I eat cooked potato skins all the time so I think that will work fine.

Whenever I eat tomatoes, tomato sauce, catchup (Italian & Mexican food), potato anything, peppers in any form, or eggplant I hurt and my joints get worse. I am sensitive the same way to the citrus family so can't take most forms of vitamin c, drink sodas or eat jams, etc. (preservative of citric acid). There is a book, "Arthritis, Don't learn to live with it." that I read many years ago that explains all this about the nightshades and how a few people are also sensitive to citrus. So if you have arthritis you may actually be being harmed by the nightshades without knowing it. If you are like most people we eat these items in one form or another so often that we never get enough of a break from them to know we are reacting to them. And chickens/dogs, etc. may not know any better either...just that they taste good and satisfy their hunger.

We had a chicken die of liver failure (sent her to the University of Minnesota for testing) She had consumed peanut suit meant for birds. University professionals said that they are starting to see a lot of this cause of death in backyard chickens. People are loving their chickens to death with too many treats.

well it depends on their age.So yeah.

Funny thing happened last year with watermelon seeds and chickens.  We had moved to our new place in December 2011, and bought our first ever chickens as chicks in March 2012.  We made a few raised beds for a garden that Spring, but knew we wanted to plan and prepare a big "in ground" vegetable garden for 2013 season.  So we dumped all our chicken manure and bedding from cleaning the coops from our new chickens into this area we started to till.  Meantime we had one of the hottest Spring & Summers here in Tennessee, so we gave watermelon and cantaloupes to our chickens.  I even made watermelon balls with an ice cream scoop and then froze them to help with the heat and keep our chickens cooled off.  Last September, Dad came back from the dump/new garden area and wanted to know if I planted watermelon seeds, and I told him no, why?  He said because we have watermelons growing up there!  All day I pondered, how in the world could we have watermelons growing if no one planted the seeds?  Then it dawned on me..........The chickens ate the watermelon & seeds and those seeds must of been in their poop, and then we dumped the poop in the new garden area, and THAT'S how we got the watermelons!!!  And then we fed THOSE watermelons back to the chickens again, a true "Circle of Life" thing!  LOL  :)

I read this to my husband, he goes that's be great if you didn't have to plant anything. The difficult part is getting the chicken to poop in those straight rows. ;) ;)

I read this post and laughed so hard. Then, I found a watermelon plant growing in the straw/poop pile at my place. Sure enough, I had given my hens watermelon (which they thoroughly enjoyed) and I got a watermelon plant. Thanks for the fun.
