Hello, I have a standard Black White Polish Crested Rooster. We have been in search of hens for him for over a year and a half. We finally found someone selling hens and we bought four. We was noticing the slow growth rate and finally realized at about 6 months old they were Bantams and not standard. We tried to introduce one of the hens in with our standard rooster and immediately he was on her and had her cornered and took a big gash out of her neck. My question is will we ever be able to put them together or are we going to have to try and find standard hens for him and a bantam rooster for the hens? If we can put them together please tell me how to slowly introduce them so no one gets hurt. I appreciate all thoughts and ideas.

I have had large polish with Bantam polish and the thing I have noticed is with most of my polish roos that they are very aggressive when comes to breeding.

Sorry that I have no experience with Polish. So I hope others with chime in." Yorkshire Coop" a moderator & greeter raises Polish. Hopefully she will be answering your post soon.

Hello and welcome to BYC. It seems that mixing your standard and bantams is not working, so personally I'd go for plan B.

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join us here! How old is your rooster? Did you only put one pullet in with him? Are your pullets laying yet? Are they only 6 months old? Sorry for all the questions but it gives a better idea of what your set up is :)

Our rooster is about 2 years old and yes we only put in one pullet. The hens are not laying yet and yes we have figured they are approx 6 months old. We didn't want to put all 3 in at the same time for fear he would hurt them all. Someone suggested putting them in a crate in his pin for a few days so he can get use to something else sharing his territory. Is that maybe a good suggestion?

Adding them all to your roo would have been better as it would not put so much focus on just the one but you can certainly use the see the but dont touch method. Have them so they can see each other but can't get hurt. This is a great read on this method ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/ar...using-the-“see-but-don’t-touch”-method.67839/
