Hi BYC - Any help appreciated!

Just noticed our Barred Rock developing blackened area on wattle - never seen this before

Other side:

Incidentally I also noticed some dark smearing on the side of the roost (blood?) -

Also some watery diarrhea where the eggs were.

Any idea what I'm dealing with ? Are these items related?

Answers to the BYC questions:

1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.) Plymouth Barred Rock, started laying 1 month ago, normal weight.
2) What is the behavior, exactly. Doesn't seem to affect behavior
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms? Just noticed the black and smearing, I think watery stool has been present for at least a few days
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms? No
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma. Unsure
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation. Went on vacation for 10 days - they were cooped up (small-ish coop) and are usually outside. It's possible that their water was not changed
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all. Seems to have appetite
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc. Watery - but again not sure if related to wattle issue
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far? none
10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet? Self
11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help. Done
12) Describe the housing/bedding in use Pine shavings (they seem to eat them!), Coop dimension Length 87 " Width 57 " Height 32 ", Very large run. 5 chickens total.

Thanks!!

I would guess that the comb was injured by pecking from another chicken, and blood was smeared on the coop wall from the comb. The black marks are peck marks. The watery stool can be from drinking lots of water in hot temperatures, but there looks to be some orange or red in it that could either be blood or more likely intestinal shed. Keep an eye on that and if anyone starts looking lethargic or huddling, or there is blood noted, I would treat all for coccidiosis with Corid. By laying age most chickens have built up some immunity to cocci, but occasionally they can still get it.
