Poopy butt, lowered tail

I usually leave sick hens with the flock and take them out to check or treat them. Make sure the others do not peck her vent. If flies are out, the poop needs to be cleaned off as needed.

I'm following. Is there an update? We lost a hen to water belly two months ago and now may have another one starting. That water balloon feeling below the vent between the legs. One site recommended oregano oil, so I'll post looking for more info on that. Would like to know if your hen pulled through.

It would be good to start a new thread of your own in the emergency forum for more attention. Do that here:

If your hen has water belly, that can be a sign of liver disease. It may be a result of fatty liver disease, cancer, egg yolk peritonitis, and heart failure especially in meat birds. Pictures of her and her lower belly would be good. Poop pictures also may help.

OK,thanks. I just posted a full report. Hard to believe this little, young bird could have liver issues already. I'll try to get photos in the morning when I can grab her again.

An update: she's still with us and her normal personable self, but she still has not laid an egg, and she's got a poopy butt pretty much all the time.

After more than a month she still has a chronically poopy butt and is not laying. She's otherwise fine. She eats, she drinks, she's still the ruler of the roost and my cuddliest girl. Is there something else I can do to get her back to 100%?
