We just received results from a necropsy that our deceased pullet likely had Blackhead Disease, which I have never previously heard of. My first question is what treatments have the chicken community figured out for this illness? It is my experience that veterinary science has done little research into long term treatments of chickens because, traditionallly, farmers would cull any sick birds, as they were not profitable. I can only assume there are Backyard Chicken Members who have some great ideas for helping manage this disease.
My second question(s) is how quickly does this spread and how can you tell this apart from coccidiosis or some other more common ailments? We have lost several birds in the last few months to illness, but they all presented slightly differently, so we thought we were dealing with several different sicknesses. Now I am wondering if it was the same thing for all of them?
I would love to hear from some folks who have dealt with this before. Thank you, in advance, for any thoughts/suggestions.
