blacksmiths, I have a question...

Just thought I'd ressurect this old thread to see how the OP is doing with the Blacksmith shop

I've not done anything lately because I just had Carpal Tunnel surgery a few weeks ago and it'll be a while before I can swing a hammer.

My blacksmith shop is about 4'X5'... I open it up and wheel the forge out side and work in the sunshine like a lot of guys did in the old-timey days.

We just got back from working on it. The roof is on, and sides go on as we get some used tin. I have pictures of all of the progress and even a nail hook that he made (I am so proud

) but I need a new mouse to down load them. The 'temp' mouse is in the photo socket and I do not know how to download without a mouse.
This is when that google 'body motion' work would come in handy.
It is A nice size, 15x20. They have been finding all sorts of things (on garbage day) for shelving and other things.
As soon as we figure out how to, I'll post some pictures.

I sort of do that too. My forge is just outside the garage door and the anvil is at the edge of the slab. Garage has one door on the south and the forge is at the east door so plenty of air flow and it's going the right direction, i.e. the smoke goes away from me. But I'm in the shade. I can load Anvil, base, and all onto a dolly and roll it away when not in use, and my forge breaks down easy. But lazy as I am, I never have moved it hehe. Long as I can get the mower and myself in and out I don't think it's in the way.

OOOOHHHH a 15x20 shop. Jealous! I use my garage but it's chock full of woodworking tools and stuff too so only a small area is used for the smithing.

Bummer. The things we do, to do the things we do. I hope you are better real soon!

I was unhappy to be out of commission but I'll be SO much better off after it heals. In truth, it's already better. My fingers are not numb for the first time in months, and I can make a fist without pain. Plus they aren't swollen. IF anyone out there ever needs this surgery, The Brown Hand Center is THE place to go. They are nice, do not make you wait, will work with you on payment, and do a super job.

I hope this comes out well, I am not good at this upload stuff.
The first is the outside, the second from the inside. We have the west wall on, and the north wall should go up this weekend. I am ready for him to move his things into his shed (that is mom code for out of 'my' way

)

My brother (16) has been smithing for about 7 years now. He started out with a hammer, an anvil made out of a railroad track, and some scrap metal for swords. Now he uses steel, dremels, grinders, fire, and whatever else is needed to make weaponry. He just works on the dirt with his "anvil" and doesnt really need anything else shelterwise.
