Hello all, I'm on day 21 on my first hatching experience. Two chicks hatched on day 19 and my third pipped last night. A few minutes ago it started bleeding, and a puddle about the size of the egg is underneath it in the water tray. It also stopped cheeping and rocking. I suspect this chick is dead. :'( My question is what could have caused the sudden hemorrhage? And will the pool of blood cause any problems with my other five eggs hatching?

Bleeding from the pip hole? Chances are that it pipped into a prominent vein. Was this a malepositioned pip?

Yes, I think it was malpositioned. It pipped externally in the middle of the egg, I was hoping it would be alright because it chirped for hours before it pipped externally. Do you think the blood in the incubator will hurt my other eggs?

If you heard it peeping before it pipped externally, then it pipped into the air cell. The air cell gets drawn down before they pip so it may not have been a true maleposition, but it does sound as though it hit a vein. I would pull it out and eggtopsy it to be sure. If the blood is in the water well there's not much you can do at this point. While I am not adverse to opening a bator during hatch if the humidity is up, there's no easy way to clean it. It shouldn't be an issue anyway.
