Am a newbie to chicken keeping. Only had them a week. Today one has caught her comb. Iv tried everything suggested that I can do with the supplies I have. Vaseline, cold water, cornflour, pressure. Stops but as soon as she shakes or eats and drinks she knocks it and it starts again. Did read that I could heat a knife and seal it but not to comfortable doing that on my own (not enough hands or experience! !!) They have all gone to bed now.....is it likely to stop over night as she won't catch it on things in the pen? Or will it just keep bleeding. Aren't combs designed to take a peck and a knock here and there? X

It will probably clot and stop bleeding over night. But chickens have a tendency to also like pecking red scabs and bloody spots unfortunately, so don't be surprised if it starts bleeding again. Hopefully that won't happen. I keep some blood stop powder on hand which is like those syptic sticks guys use when they nick themselves shaving.

Ok. Just went and checked on them and all settled down and comfy for the night. Alot of people suggest separating them but she gets very stressed when not next to her other girls even if they can see each other through wire so think that would be worse. Will see how she is in the morning. Thank you. ... stopped me worrying a little. Only had them a week but feel like part of the family already. Would be so upset if anything happened to any ofv them!!!
