Hi,
My Light Sussex pullet has only this morning done something to her toe. She came up to me this morning and I saw half her face covered in dry blood.

(in the picture it's wet)
I did some cleaning to try an find an injury, but there was none.
I found her toe drenched in blood looking a little soft compared to the other nails. The blood on her face was probably because she had scratched herself with her injured toe.

I guessed that her nail has come off, is this right? If so, what do I do?

As long as the bleeding has stopped, it should be ok. You could clean it but that may start the bleeding again. It may grow back irregular , so just keep an eye on it so it doesn't become ingrown. Make sure others are not pecking her injury.

clean her foot in a bowl of warm water. you should order Vetericyn VF and spray the toe 2-3 times a day until healed. also make sure the rest of the flock isn't pecking it and if they are separate her until its healed

The nail may or may not grow back. It probably depends on how far back it broke. I think diluted betadine should be ok if you have it, but it is important to stop the bleeding (birds don't have a lot of blood). Applying pressure may help.

Eeek! This same thing just happened to my girl Gurdy. It happened yesterday. I used that stuff for dogs to get the nail to stop bleeding. Then put some newsprint on it. Today I soaked it in Epsom salt, or orageno oil and some cinnamon. It didn't bleed, looks kinda scanned over but I wiped her wired feet really good and applied more neosporine. She is gimping but it's not swollen or red so fingers are crossed.
