Thanks for the compliment. I raised 40 this year. It is a labor of love. Feed costs are exceptionally high, even though I use enourmous amounts of donated fruits and veggies from the farmers market and let them range. You also have to consider the cost of the chick (about $8 including shipping), bedding, electricity, materials, turkeys have a high mortality the first 2 weeks, processing equipment, processing bags and tags....it goes on and on. At $3.75/pound, I made enough to pay for 4 of my own turkeys for my family. Not much more. It is truly a labor of love. I think it also depends on where you live. Here in MN, organic turkey food is upwards of $20/bag.

If you don't mind my asking, Where did you buy Heritage Turkeys for $8.00 Including shipping? What Breed are you raising? I paid over $12 each for day old Holland White Poults, 2 years ago!

I cost about $7 to $8 each just for BBW and BBB, where I've been shopping!!! I think a lot of people would like to know where they can get Heritage Turkeys for this price.

I have sold only two surpluse Toms this year at $50 each but both buyers said that it was the best Turkey they had ever eaten.
As stated before it is hard to find people who want to pay for a great tasteing bird may be I can build some repeat buyers and keep the funds flowing selling eggs and Poults as well.

I got most of them from a a local breeder, I don't think they have Nargansetts. I also order from Meyer. They are the cheapest. They will do heritage eggs for 3.75, shipping included. Meyer and Cackle around $8, I just add them to my other orders. The best deal I ever got was to get the Cackle Surprise Package for $60 and list empathically how much I LOVED heritage turkeys. They sent me about 20 of them, blue slates and Bourbons for less than 1.50 a piece. Plus a ton of other speciality layers. I am also shipping heritage eggs this year, you can probably get the best deals from other people here. Absolutely worth it!!!!
