Blessing by a priest, should I take the easy way out?

You've got that down pat right. As for being blessed I was told several years back that if an item is present at a mass and you wish to have it blessed no real need to have the priest do it personally. It is automatically blessed for the fact it is present during mass and that it gets blessed when the priest blesses the congregation. Like I said before no matter how it gets done....It's a beautiful gift.

Good to know, thanks.

In life there are lots of ways of doing things. Sure it would be nice if you could get the blessing on the rosary in person but the important thing is that you get it blessed. I feel that you getting it done in person is more for you while getting it done period is for your father (it is for your father, right?). Do what works out best. I could also throw in a guilt trip. Suppose you hold off getting it done so you can do it in person and then something happens to your father?

I understand your point. I don't know how much longer my dad will be around, though I hope it's alot longer. I am doing my best to make sure nothing is left undone, nothing is left unspoken.

Well, you knew when you posted you would get conflicting advice.

Do what is right for you. Both ways are right, having someone get it blessed for you or you finding a priest and getting it blessed.

Doing something out of guilt or the feeling of "I have to" can take away from a gift in your own mind. Even if the other person does not know about it. Getting it blessed is the whole point. I don't see how you get it done really matters. Your father will love the fact that YOU thought of making this for him and followed all of the steps to get done right. I am betting it will not matter to him how it got blessed. He has the additional blessing that you made him something with your own hands that has such a strong connection to what is an integral part of him and his life. That is a blessing in and of itself.
