Rhode Island Red hen? I got some fertile eggs for my first-time broody, and they came from a BR roo and either a Rhode Island Red Hen or a BR hen.

Problem is, I'm not sure what one gets with that reverse combo from a sex link. I think one is a BR roo, as it has an irregular spot and no red feathers at all, yellower legs than the other, etc.

The other has reddish face fluff and has pinkish legs.

Here's chick #1

They won't be sex-linked because the father was the one with the barring gene. All offspring will have some degree of barring (and have the spot on top of the head).

They won't be sex-linked with that cross, and you will also not be able to use the headspot to tell gender as you often can on barred birds.

If Daddy has two copies of the barring gene, then all chicks will receive one copy. Can't get it from Mama as she has none. If Daddy has only one copy, then all chicks have an equal chance of inheriting it, regardless of gender.

Ok. I am trying to figuar this out for the future. If I breed a BO roo to a BR hen that is gold SL. If I breed a RIR roo to a BR hen that is a ? SL? I have BR pullets and am trying decide on a roo to keep in the flock.

No. Red/gold sex-links are made using the silver/gold gene. Black sex-links are made using the barring gene.

For reds, mama must be silver (S,-), papa gold (s,s); for blacks mama must be barred (B,-), papa not-barred (B,B).

Keep going!! This is fantastic info...however I'm going to go pout because I'm going to get attached to these and I already have 2 roos more than I'm supposed to have...I can't fall in love with more!!

I have 4 more eggs to hatch, too...OEGB...no chance of identifying sex in that, either.

Ok. Still no idea what you are saying. I have BR pullets, a BO roo and a lot of RIR roos. What happens if I cross either of these? Just a mutt? Or is there a good book I can get to help me with any of this.
