Blind duck (not to be confused with a duck blind)

Great to hear that things are working out for little Claude and that you're taking care of him! You gave him a chance at a great life that he obviously wouldn't have had if you hadn't brought him home. He's a cutie!

Thanks everybody, it's been about a week and he is doing awesome. Claude is fully acclimated to the flock and has learned where the food and water is already! Now I just need to teach him how to get into and out of the shelter.

Well I did a supervised introduction with my flock today and they loved him! The geese were a little nibbley but one of my rouen girls took right to him and he has been fallowing her all day. I will seperate him when I am not there for a while but I am hopeful that all will work out! Thank you everybody, I look forward to giving Claude a full life here!
seriously made my heart warm a little bit! :)

I have a blind duckling about 3 weeks old. I think the gosslings pecked it as he/she is the largest duck otherwise and almost as big as the goslings. Poor thing. I may just have to put her/him down. Unless someone near SW Washington wants it?

So one of my ducks is blind. She has a very quiet quack. Almost like a whisper. I keep her in with the other ducks and have not had any problems. She follows the other ducks around by feeling their footprints on the ground. Occasionally when I put them to bed at night all the ducks will go in except for the blind duck who just sits there or stands there because they don't make a lot of noise when they are going to bed. It has been a very interesting experience.

I was at our local feed store this morning and I had to ask about this confused looking boy in the pen with broiler chickens. The owner told me he was completely blind and was most likely going to hitch a ride on the slaughter truck. She told me I could have him for free if my intent was to give him a good home. I couldn't resist so I took him home this morning and he has been named Claude. Does anybody out there have experience with blind poultry? He eats and drinks as soon as he learns where the food is. I am nervous to introduce him to the rest of the flock however......

Hi, only just seen your post. It’s an awful long time ago you had Claude, how did it go? I’ve got a blind mandarin duck and he knows where everything is, it’s amazing. But he gets picked in by my other two sadly.

Can you separate these so they can still be together but separated by fencing? When my old Muscovy female was alive to keep her from being picked on I used X pen so she could still be with the flock but was kept safe from anyone who wanted to bully her. A large dog crate can work inside the coop. Ir just something like the plastic fencing Lowes carries.
