On June 26th I got home late from work to find my Cochin hen still outside in the rain. Upon it getting her in I discovered she had been attacked by something. I also discovered one of my silkie hens gone. Found some of her feathers scattered around near the gate the next morning. My poor girl. I feel awful. First time in 5 years anything like this has happened. I am thinking it was a skunk as I saw one the next night prowling around the yard. Back to my Cochin. She has one eye that has been totally closed. Her other eye is open but I think she has no sight. I have been applying terramyacin ointment daily to both. She also had a wound under one of her wings that I have been treating with vetricyn spray. She has been separated from the flock because they won’t stop pecking her if I try to put her with them. She has food and water but I don’t believe she is accessing either. I take her out and manually get her to eat and drink 2-3 times a day. The last few days she won’t drink the water but she does eat fairly well. I have been feeding her a mixture of cooked quinoa, scrambled or hard boiled egg, and canned cat food. Do you think her sight may return or is it hopeless? I don’t want her to suffer or slowly starve. She did lay an egg the next morning after the attack but none since. I told my husband he may have to cull. I can’t do it... but I want to give her a fair chance as she seems to have the will to live.
