Hello, one of my roosters has been missing back feathers for a while which I thought was molting. He is growing new feathers so I still think it started as that, but now he has some sort of injury or infection. He has a few blisters on his back and I am not sure what they are from or how to treat?
He was hatched October 2019. He is a naked neck frizzle silkie bantam. He may be thinner than normal but I don't know for sure. He seems to be behaving normally. None of my other birds have these symptoms. The area around the blisters (circled in one photo looks the worst) not sure if the skin where the feathers are missing are a problem too? It looks blush greenish, so it seems bad but is not pussy or bleeding, so I am not sure. He is molting and I wonder if he got sunburned or picked on by the other chickens, someone on facebook mentioned ingrown feathers. But would that cause fluid filled blisters? Poop seems normal, drinking fine, ate black oil sun flower seeds today, but does not seem to be eating feed. I noticed something more than molting was wrong Sunday night started spraying with vetricyn plus for poultry 3 times a day Monday. Moved to isolation cage out of sun and away from other chickens. Wood shaving for coop bedding, has large attached pen with overhead predator protection, with areas for shade they can go to. Please advise what you think is going on here and how to treat. Thank you.

He looks like he's being pecked and plucked which can turn deadly. I would keep him separately until you figure out who's doing it, and what you want to do about it. It should heal up with some wound spray applied as necessary.

Thank you for responding. I am glad to hear you think he will heal up. Follow up question. I have 2 bantam roosters. The other seems very docile. The injured bird seems like the flock protector, he goes nuts when we or my cats approach the fence, and alerts the other birds to go in the coop. Is it possible he is low in the pecking order even if he is the protector? Before he was molting there was no problem, so is he getting picked on because he is molting? Or am I wrong and he is not molting?

I don't think he's molting. I've had roosters that will stick their heads in a corner when confronted by other roosters. The other birds will start pecking them, generally on the back like yours. I would guess your frizzle is fairly meek. He needs to probably be kept away from other roosters because of it.

Thank you for your input!
