(blond) Euraisan collaerd doves- egg/chick

We have a dove pair that lost her first clutch, (new mother) and laid again, she laid one on lets say... day one and the other egg 4 days later... that's not how its supposed to work- chick one has hatched... now what?

do I let her try to keep it?

the chick will eventually push it out won't it?

I have a huge (ok... 30 chicken egg) incubator, but that sounds a bit much for one dove egg.

Its really up to you .. I would defintly wait a few days and see if the other one pops out before tossing.. I started my bator for 2 button quail eggs so I cant say much about over kill... Good luck and let us know what you end up doing..

opened the egg- the chick was dead inside, fully developed.

i've probably hatched close to 20-30 clutches and only seen a few where both eggs hatched. Dove parents are smart, they'll throw out defective eggs and put their efforts into raising the strong chicks rather than hatching babies that will just die.
