Blood clots on rooster's comb, why?

Today I noticed several small blood clots on my rooster's comb. They are about the size of a BB. I caught my rooster to inspect him closer. He has no paracites, i.e. mites or any other bugs. These little raised bumps were still wet and had not hardened yet to form a scab. I am not sure what these are. Has anybody out there seen this and/or know what it is? Thanks.
