I forgot to take a picture of it but I noticed that after my rooster pooped, there was a bright red drop of blood next to it. The poop looks normal otherwise. He and his vent also seems normal otherwise, and I actually just checked his crop this morning, and it was empty. Is it normal for them to have blood drop like that sometimes? I didn't see it again but he's been in his run for a the last week because of the snow so I haven't been able to check his poop too closely.

After a quick Google search, I see mentions of a vent prolapse but I'm not sure what that means. My brother feeds him rice everyday even though I tell him not to. Could it be from that? He does seem a little overweight.

I would be good to get a photo if you see that next time.

Without seeing it, maybe it was intestinal shedding which can be normal.

A prolapsed vent is where tissue is hanging out of the vent, if you looked at his vent and it was normal, then there's no prolapse.

What else does your rooster eat besides the rice? Is the rice cooked?

If he's acting normal right now, then I would just keep watch on him.

Here are some pictures of the blood drop, his vent, and him. I saw him poop again and no blood dripped this time. The rice is raw. I primarily give him chicken feed the rest of the time with some yogurt every other day and pumpkin seeds sometimes.

Looks like he may have a prolapse, however, I can’t entire days as we would need better pictures of his vent (butthole). He also could’ve gotten injured there by something, but again, I don’t know. Coccidiosis normally causes bloody droppings sometimes, but I don’t know if that’s the case here. If you can, I suggest getting a picture of his vent.

Well, I checked it again but I don't see any more blood. Looks like the spot from earlier has dried up. Probably just an injury or got pecked. Will update if anything changes.

I'm not sure how old you are or what your living situation is, but could you tell your parents to make your brother stop feeding him the rice? Eating uncooked rice can kill birds. That's why they tell people not to throw rice at weddings anymore.

I read that was a myth. In any case, I have told him to stop feeding them rice because there isn't much nutrition.
