Blood in chicken coop, what is it?

That is a large roundworm in the poop, the most common kind. You cannot see worm eggs or other types of worms without a microscope usually. There is no way anyone can tell you what is causing the blood.

We had a very puffed up bird one morning 3 weeks ago. She wouldn't leave the roost or open her eyes for more than a minute. She also had yellow/green diarrhea.

Long story short, the vet tested her poop and said roundworms.

She started to eat/drink/open her eyes 24 hours after her first dose of Panacur in water. She lived in the house for a week to recover, with longer visits to her flock each day as she returned to normal. If you can, you may want to bring yours inside to keep her from expending a ton of energy trying to act "normal."

Our girl's crop slowed down a bunch when she first got sick. I think the worms blocked her intestines and nearly shut her organs down. Luckily her system restarted before she got sour crop or any infections overwhelmed her.

She's been back outside, happy and shiny, for the past 2 weeks. I still watch her and will be bringing another sample to the vet for followup. Obviously the rest of the flock was treated, too, though they had no symptoms except occasional blood in poop that could've passed for shed intestinal lining.

The crazy thing is that both times we've wormed, I haven't detected a single worm in their poop, which seems odd to me. Yours is the most definitive worm-in-poop picture ever.
