I have been raising/hatching chicks for over two years now. I have never had an issue before. I have always used medicated feed, but I now I think I may be dealing with Cocci?? I noticed a tinge of blood in a couple of poo spots in my chicks' outdoor brooder this morning. Should I treat for Cocci? Is there anything else I need to do? They are in their own private brooder, anyway. No other chickens can get to them. The roosters may end up going to freezer camp, though......

ETA: They are roughly 6 weeks old.

Did they eat anything like berries that could cause droppings that were that color? If not I would clean the brooder and the waterers very well and then see if it happens again. If it does, I would suggest treating them before it progress. Catching diseases early is important, so good eye.

My six-week olds had the same problem.

The feces looked about the same and we were taking no chances. We started them on a five day Corid treatment and the poop looks more normal now. One of our hens was affected pretty badly and she is in the house right now. I would monitor them closely and, if one starts to seem sickly, make sure to monitor their weight. We had to resort to tube feeding with our's and she is barely holding on. If one has Cocci, it is almost guaranteed the others have it too. I would start treatment now. I can't hurt to try.

I hope you figure everything out!
