Writing goals

"So why did you quit writing?"
"Google wouldn't help me describe a dash."

2026 New Year, and I'm already getting behind. I'm working on editing, doing a lot more research than actual writing, and getting hung up on the simplest things. But I am trying. Trying even though there is other things I'd rather be doing.

How's everyone else's writing going so far this year? I know we're still early in it.

I've potentially done none 👀 I don't remember exactly when I stopped but I hit a nice lovely wall and that's where I've left it cause I've been too busy 🫠
I need to work on outlining anyways so it can keep sitting there for a bit... just means Im procrastinating more because I don’t WANT to outline...

Maybe skip the outline? For now, anyway? I think for me, I've already dove into the writing before I actually put out the outline. Sometimes I think I might even have written the whole chapter before I start figuring I should have an outline to make sure it's on track. It might even be in the first editing process that I decide on doing one, as I feel like the story started going off track.
You don't necessarily need an outline. They're more of good to have to keep you on track, and can sometimes even help with writer's block if you don't know where you're supposed to be going. But you don't need an outline to write. If it's stopping you from writing, ditch it. Then later if you are motivated to do one real quick, do it then.

Same boat. I keep playing scenes out in my head, but I can't seem to get anything down on paper. I got myself one of those pomodoro timers to try and force writing sessions.

The outline was mostly for the whole story. Me writing down everything I've been sorting recently so I don't forget or miss anything. I was hoping to try and do more detailed stuff too because I keep getting stuck because I'm just not sure "where to go". I have little goals like "get them to here" or "have this happen" but reaching them is hard, and after I reach them I often get stuck.
Like right now I have an already written scene I know I have to work towards so I can insert it, for some reason I'm just a little stuck on how to get there and how fast it should take.

Im planning on doing double school this coming week so i can have a week off next week and write and actually get back to Lacy about titles cuz I’ve ghosted her and have been thinking about it.

All my writing is role playing and spontaneous vibes rn and my WIP is on life support
I really have to go back and give my villain a personality cuz bro reads like plain white rice

Have you checked out the "Save the Cat" novel structure? I certainly don't marry any of my stories to it, but it can help determine placement of certain scenes from a percentage standpoint, as well as what sort of scenes should come before and after. It's really helped me to learn pacing.
