Hi Everyone!
I am new to backyard chickens. I need some advice!

I currently have a batch of eggs hatching. The first chick hatched, a piece of it's shell got stuck in the metal and it pierced it's belly. Unfortunately my 5 year old daughter saw it first (much to her horror). I took it out right away, but there is blood in the incubator and in the water in the bottom. My question: Do I clean it or just leave it be? I don't want the blood to create bacteria and ruin the other eggs.

Thanks for any help you can give!

On a side note...as soon as I took out the chick, the blood flow stopped. I have been feeding it water with electrolytes with a dropper and it is somehow still alive. It is chirping extremely loud and seems to be doing ok. It will be a miracle if it survives.

It's a troublesome situation. Best I think to let things be for now while the hatch goes, pull the chicks as soon as they are on their feet and move them too the brooder, and clean it very well as soon as the hatch is done.
