In the past week I had a sudden drop off in egg production from about 10 eggs normally in 4 days to about 4 in 4 days. They were low on water about 4 days ago and it was moderately hot, so at first I attributed it to that, but then I saw some fresh red blood spots and splatter inside of the hen house. Its not in the poop--the poop looks normal. This blood is bright red and in two droplet-sized locations in the nesting box, as well as some small blood splatter around the wall of the coop. I cleaned up the blood and locked the hens in the coop, making sure they had fresh food and water. The next day I was at full production--3 eggs, but the day after, I only had 1 egg, and blood spots again.

They are about 1 year and 2 months old. I have 3 hens--2 barred rock, 1 sex link.

Anyone know what is going on?

Thank you,
Michael

Have you checked for one of them being hurt? Maybe a broken egg in side one of them? Bumble foot? There has to be ean injury to the chicken for it to bleed.
