Hello, I noticed today that my almost two month old male Pekin duckling had blood in his nostrils. It was not pouring just ran down a little so I gave him clean water and he cleaned it out. He’s been super energetic and still eating/drinking normal. The only thing I can think of is that we used tractor supply Alfalfa Hay because they were sold out of our usual. The hay seems to have large pieces of grass, some wood, and recently found a rock.
I’m just at a loss because I don’t know what to do. As of right now, I’m keeping a close watch, took out all of the hay, added pine shavings, and put vetercyn on the nostrils.

does anyone have any advice? Did I miss something? Is it most likely just a cut from the rough hay?
I checked the mouth and didn’t see any blood.

It's probably just a cut if nothing else is wrong with him. My gander poked one of his nostrils once on the hardware cloth edge of his pen, I rinsed it out and dabbed it with a towel. It stopped bleeding after a while and hasn't happened again.

I agree it doesn’t seem like anything to worry about. Keep an eye on it and make sure he’s still eating. We’ve had a duck get into brambles before and scratch her bill all up. Healed up fine. :)
