Blood in poop! Help!

TAKE THE TEMP of the box you have them in (is there enough room for them to move away from the heat source if they are indeed too hot?)

Go back to my last reply regarding the feed (I hit post instead of edit)

uhm its called starter chick crumbles.. and they are mostley crumbles bits.. i wouldnt say its very powdery. I rang the store again and made the guy tell me the ingredients.. and it sounds medicated to me. He seemed confident. *sigh*
just worried about my remaining 4...
have raised chicks before with no problems.. so maybe its the private breeder i went with..

i dont have anything to take the temp with unfortunately... but it doesnt seem like it would be too hot. our house is quite cold and it is winter here in australia... but if indeed that is the case which it may be! i will try and arrange a bigger box so that if they are cold they will huddle more near the light source. Geeze, i had no idea really that being too warm was no good.. its definitely not cooking hot though.
thanks for all your help

also.. have you heard of anyone reviving a chick? this one here is still alive but im wondering if she will pick back up or if im just waiting for her to die... :'(

chick is not chirping... only trying to but no sound. and keeps putting her head back... i have decided to try and hydrate her by giving her drops of water... hope this helps

I had not realized you were in australia and was thinking heat ... conversely being too cold will also kill them.
you need to monitor your temps.

It is quite possible to get cocci even with medicated starter ... what are their poos like?

Hi all,

Update on my chicks...
The one i was trying to nurse yesterday died sadly. I came home today to find my remaining 4 chicks perfectly happy, alive and normal looking... although after watching their behavior i do think one of them is acting odd... she is being more aggressive pecking at the same food as one of the other chicks as to steal it.. and then scratching the food and then running behind to peck at the feed she has thrown! She doesnt seem overly disoriented but i will keep watching to see how she goes.
However, there is reddish poop which to me looks like blood in it and i have a picture for you to see! Does that mean they or one has cocci? I havent seen blood before today.. so im still finding it weird the other two died.
What can i do? I am thinking of putting apple cider vinegar in their water.. and also giving them a mash of medicated starter and plain yoghurt.
How much vinegar should i put in the water? Any other ides of what i can do.. i just want to save these babies before its too late!
much thanks

that pic would appear to indicate cocci... dont wait (as you have seen it can kill fast) > get cocci med and start them on it immediately... it usually is put in the water so be sure it is their only water source. There may be two dosages listed in the instructions > one for tREATMENT and one for PREVENTION ... use the dosage for TREATMENT and be sure you follow the instructions to the letter.)

i have no idea where to find the medicine for them though... once again i am in australia so i doubt any place you could mention would be of use to me. I have called 2 veterinaries but they only told me to bring in the chicks and pay a visit fee to be checked over... which i am unhappy about since i already know what is wrong with them.
might call the breeder to find out if she knows a place to get the treatment.. thanks

Called the breeder and she says i can buy some Amprolium from her.. which i can do tommorow. However, to help my chicks survive the night and day until i treat them will apple cider vinegar do!? and how much of it do i put in the water?
