Blood in poop! Help!

Quote:
Tractor supply USUALLY carries Sulmet. 2 tbs./ gallon of water for first few days, then cut in half. Directions are on the bottle. It works fast, and best to treat ALL birds that are in the same area (esp. brooder).

Some tractor supplies carry Amprol. During this time of year, they run out all the time, so you might want to call and ask if they have SULMET liquid in stock. Also, it is used for swine, cattle, goats, etc., so it may NOT be in their poultry area. Ask them to check their STOCK database to see if it is in stock before checking the shelf.

After this, keep the sulmet on hand, as cocci is very common, EVEN in chicks that are fed medicated feed. The good news is, if you catch it quick enough it is very treatable. But you don't want to over treat.

I also learned from a member of Dave's Garden, that vinegar, and the vitamins/electrolytes that you add to water, will counteract the sulpha drugs, so don't use at the same time.

Symptoms of cocci is obviously the blood in the poo, ruffled feathers, droopy head, droopy tail, lethargic.

Good luck!
