I got this RIR when she was about 10 weeks old, I’ve had her for 6 weeks. They do not free range, she seems to be healthy otherwise other than a foot that seems a little deformed but I just saw this poop this morning. Is this blood & what should I do about it?
It sounds gross, but if you still have it, tease the red spot a bit.
It looks like it is shed intestinal lining, which is normal. Lining will be stringy or at least clumpy.
Blood is thin and runny and won't have any substance (although sometimes mucous can be included with an inflamed intestine).
If it is blood, then you need to start a course of Corid asap as that is the sign of coccidiosis. You would need to treat the whole flock following the instruction label.
If it is shed lining, it is perfectly normal.
If you can't really decide, it won't hurt to treat.
I'll link some poop photos so you can see the difference between lining and blood.
It looks more like shed lining to me. My chicks recently had to be treated for cocci and their blood was much redder and runnier than this. It wouldn't hurt to treat with Corid, it's not an antibiotic and you can still eat the eggs. Here is a good reference for the dosage. https://www.backyardchickens.com/posts/11899998/
