Hello. I have a silver dorking who has blood in her stool and also mucus and a yucky bottom, but since finding these stools has now passed a firm stool with no blood!? I've isolated her and placed water and food with her and I sat with her just now and she was eating and drinking and She was preening her feathers !? I did notice her sneeze twice though. She sat and rested too with her eyes closed. Below is pic of poohs found with blood. Can anyone help? She is 9 weeks old

If she were mine, I would treat for Coccidiosis.
You can find Corid at most feed stores like Tractor Supply.
Dosage is 1 1/2 teaspoons Corid powder per gallon or 2 teaspoons of 9.6% Corid liquid per gallon. Give for 5-7 days - make sure this is the ONLY water available during that time period. Mix a fresh batch at least once a day.
After you finish treatment offer some poultry vitamins and probiotics/plain yogurt.

If you have other chicks the same age, then provide Corid solution to them as well.
Give her bottom a wash up - warm soapy water is fine - dry her well afterward and keep her relatively warm.

Hi! I have struggled today to find the medication but sourced someone finally this afternoon but I will have to get tomorrow now :( she has since done some 'normal stools' and some that are soft but none have blood? Does this happen with cocci? She's also acting very confused/nonsensical... doing strange actions but still very active. She's been shaking her head also which makes me wonder if it's respiratory (not that that explains the bloody stool!) perhaps I'm dealing with alsprts of problems here!? Thankyounfor your help I will get to the medication tomorrow :)

I don't see a location in your profile - knowing that is helps us help you (you don't have to be too specific - you can put your state or country if you wish).

Do you have vet care available?

Check her over for lice/mites and look inside her ears to make sure there is no debris, ear mites or infection that may cause the shaking of the head. Head shaking can also be a symptom of a neurological condition as well. Respiratory symptoms include runny nose/mucous, coughing, sneezing, wheezing, facial swelling and watery eyes with pus or discharge.

What type of food/treats are you feeding? Is she drinking/eating?

Apologies, I am in Australia. She is eatingg and drinking very well. Currently her Poop is kinda soft but bitty... but no blood. She just seems a bit confused. Neurological is sticking in my mind, but how on earth that would cause blood in bowel I'm not sure. I have had the bird 3 days and I can access vet but it is $100 just for the consult and I'm very sure she would require further treatment and i would like to avoid as money isn't plentyful currently :( i put apple cider vinegar in her water today and she was guzzling it down. Crumble too. I have not fed her any scraps, and she has not free ranged yet. She was doing a funny craning motion with her neck on her first day with is but I put it down to stress' now I'm thinking respiratory!? I think I need to do a vet degree

In AU, you may find the Amprolium (Corid) as "Coxoid", sometimes that may not be available and you may have to use Sulfonamides, but I think those have to come from a vet.

Is the crumble a chick starter formula?
Head motion/adjusting the neck - craning - check her crop to make sure it's emptying overnight (crop should be full/firm at night and empty/flat first thing in the morning before eating/drinking). Even if she is only eating chick starter, it never hurts to make poultry grit (crushed granite/small stones/very course sharp sand) available to help them process foods, some chicks occasionally may ingest a bit of bedding that is difficult to digest.

I also agree, it's very expensive for vet care, but I usually ask anyway - that is a luxury I can't afford.

Hello, I just want to update anyone following. I gave my little dorking apple cider vinegar in water over two/theee days... during isolation her pooh returned to normal, and her behaviour too! I returned her to the flock and she started to have mild symptoms return. I was worried so had amprolium on hand for safe measure... she is now totally normal. I never administered the amprolium. From observation although she was symptomatic I didn't feel it was necessary to give it to her as it wasn't progressing as coccid is thought to. Fingers crossed she is totally well, I still have no clue as to what she had blood pass... but I will inform you of any updates or for future thread readers :)
