My most personable hen has had thin shells for quite some time and tonight while closing up the coop I found one of her eggs covered on one end with blood.
She is a little over one year old, barred rock, one of 6 hens, free range and on layena laying mash, pine shavings for bedding. What else....

I will be going out of town and hope this is not something that will not be too much trouble for my chicken sitter!
Any insight would help with my peace of mind!

I don't know. A little blood on the egg shell isn't unusual, but that's quite a bit. I'd soak her backside in a warm sink for awhile tomorrow and try to get a look at things.

I looked tonight and her parts looke normal. She had a little trail of blood on her feathers but nothing substantial. From the outside she looked normal. I will check her again in the morning.
Thanks.. I wonder if she had a clot of some sort???
