I have always associated blood on the shell as coming from a new layer, but i think my youngest are too young to lay (4 months) and my “middle” girls should have been laying already (about 8-9 months old), and my oldest ladies have been definitely been laying for a while (a year or more of age).
This morning i found a little bit of blood on the outside of an egg. Should i be concerned? Is it possibly a late bloomer from the middle girls or an early bird from the younger girls?
Only other change is that the young cockerel has begun mounting the women but i can’t imagine that would be causing an issue. He’s only 4 months old, came from the same batch as my youngest girls.

Small amounts of blood are simply a sign that for some reason a vessel between the shell gland and the vent ruptured and the Egg collected a little blood on it as it went by. It could be from any number of things but is not concerning at all. That's also not unique to young birds/new layers

Thanks for making this post! I pulled an egg with a small streak of red on the shell out of the nesting box this morning.

Glad I wasn’t the only one feeling concerned!

I've found some blood on pullet eggs (new layers) as well as some hens that are coming back from a long winter hiatus! I haven't observed any issues with the ladies, I just imagine it's just a bit uncomfortable for them.
