Blood red egg yolks

I know that a chicken's diet heavily influences the color of their yolk. As others have said, I wouldn't be at all surprised to hear that your chickens are eating something that is turning their yolks red! Especially where they are free ranging and they have access to anything and anything in their pasture.
Check this source out:

It doesn't specify a RED yolk, but from the information I think it's reasonable to infer that the chickens are earing SOMETHING that turns their yolks red...it's probably just not a usual ingredient a chicken would get in a commercial diet or a diet controlled by the owner.

Thanks for the link! I think it is those cherries that the wild birds are bringing in!

Hi, all. I've raised free range chickens on my acre for the past six years. This year a couple of the hens are laying eggs that have a blood red yolk. I mean, BLOOD RED (but no blood in the white or anything.) I've never had this happen. Is it just because we had an extraordinarily wet spring and they're eating more greens? Or? (Google did not really enlighten me on this one.) Any experiences with this? Thanks!

did it look like this?

There was a thread on here all about dark orange and red yolks. I can't find it now. All my birds yolks are perry dark, but here in another month when the poke berries ripen, the yolks will turn red. Happens every year here.
I upload pics of yolk color fans in the other thread if any one can find it.
