You did everything you could do for him. He just wasn't meant to be.

My first egg of this batch was pipped when I got up this morning (due tomorrow) and it was in the wrong end!
barnie.gif
I popped him out of the egg carton chipped away a teeny bit of shell to be sure his airway was clear, smeared on some ointment, and popped him back in the bator on a damp cloth. Seems to be ok so far. He's enlarged the hole a good bit. Have 2 other pips that I can see that are both in the correct place.

thank you both. very trying for sure. its been a long week. so what do you have hatching ? I hope your wrong end does well.

I have Lavender Orpingtons, SFH, EE and OE, and some accidental LOxBA because there are a couple who lay eggs just like the orps and I can't tell them apart.

I'll be able to tell once they hatch though. The xbreeds will be solid black.

someone just gave me a swedish roo and i was just talking about how the babies would look with my buff orph. and blk. alstrop. i am getting 5 eggs a day from them . 4 doz. in the fridge . gave 4 doz. away. my phoenix is mating my ee.

Granny Hatchet, For Sure You gave it your best!!

I just took 80 chicks out the hatcher a few days ago and I moved some eggs into the hatcher this morning. They are mainly Yellow buff orp, Barred Rock, Speckled Sussex, Blue laced red Wyandotte, a few white silkies etc. I am shutting down the Incubator and hatcher for a few weeks except for 1 styrofoam one that I will be putting a few eggs per week in it----Eggs that I want to hatch for myself to build up my numbers of "those Breeds". It takes about 3 full weeks to shut down the big incubator. Even though the chicks sold good at the Auction last night I feel they will probably slow down these next 2 or 3 months----also I need a break!! LOL. As a Small hatcher---about 1200 hatched in the last few months---I need a Break!!

Oh Riverman, thats sounds like a dream job to me !

and i cant even hatch one. I could really use the extra money to cover feed costs and there is NO serama in my neck of the woods. so I am hoping..... do?have you ever hatched seramas? I just have the styrofoam. and i bought a second for staggered hatch as i also only have one pr.

No I never tried them----who has got some eggs?? LOL, Yea E-bay. I will ask around local and see if I can find some eggs. Are they harder to hatch than say Silkie's?

I love hatching and would Continue through the winter if I knew they would sell. This is my first winter hatching and all the people that sell hatched chicks during the warmer months are not hatching any---Makes me wonder if they are "smarter" than me---LOL---Know something I do not know. Maybe I should keep hatching----if They do not sell---I bet come spring I could sell the 4/5 month old pullets easier than some day-old hatched chicks, BUT I bet I would have alot of feed in them that I might not get enough out of them to pay for feeding them. I have not done it enough yet to know what it cost to feed a just hatched chick to a 5/6 month old chicken.

Riverman, I have heard they are very hard to ship. the eggs that is, and the chicks have to be at 40 degrees min. they are half the size of silkies. if you could find local and hatch they couldnt ship til spring now.

I love hatching as well. not much luck lately. I know its not luck, I am off some how. I am surrounded by farmers and amish. what they would want to buy would be the layers and duel purpose. and i think hatching now and selling pol hens would go over good here.

did your wrong end hatch ok ? did you help ? I have had no luck at all. the last egg died half way and i am pretty sure it was the power outage. it lines up with the size of the chick. I now have 4 in there from the 18th , 3 from yesterday and 1 today along with 17 of my LF put in yesterday as well. Its become personal now. LOL If my lf hatch and seramas dont I am going to blame them and try no more. well, no more with that pr.
