Blood spots in eggs

I have 4 hens, no roosters but sometimes find blood spots on the outer edge of the yolk. I am concerned because I give away a lot of eggs. Is this a bad thing, and can they still be eaten?

Blood/meat spots really don't hurt anything, just rather unappetizing to look at. They are pretty common, in eggs of older birds especially, if you are getting a lot of them you might want to look into other causes besides, bird age and just chance.

Thank you so much! I have 4 hens. There is only one that I have found the little spots on the edge of the yolk. We don't worry about it. The hens are about 16 months old. Does anyone know how long chickens life or when they totally stop producing eggs. We found they laid better and more eggs when we feed them raw sunflower seeds. They love, love, love mealworns and like cheerios, but eat them last.
