Bloody bottom before and after laying egg…

Chicken was less than a year old. I didn’t notice any changes in her poop. She was laying regularly. She was acting normal. I checked on my girls this evening and noticed she was laying in the coop. Blood all over her bottom and her egg. I noticed blood in the free range section of the coop as well. I am guessing she was bleeding before and then after laying her egg. Thoughts as to what happened? If possible parasites, what to treat with and dosage.
She was still alive so we gave her a warm butt bath with a bit of Dawn dish soap. She only lasted about 15 min after that.
She was a great layer and a sweet girl. White Leghorn

She may have been vent pecked by others in the coop, but I would either do a home necropsy or have your state vet do one if you save the body, to find out if there was some other possible cause. There are a few conditions that might cause internal bleeding, such as fatty liver disease, cancer, ingesting a sharp object, or suffering a prolapse that has been pecked. Sorry for your loss.

Thank you. Just want to prevent it to the others in the coop if there was something other than the prolapse. Her vent was dark red and had a white-yellowish discharge.

Could she have had a broken egg with contents coming out, and that encouraged pecking? I would observe your birds to make sure no one is pecking vents, and that they have plenty of room and things to explore.

So sad. I'm pretty sure she enjoyed the warm bath.

No her egg was intact. I don’t think she had any broken pieces in her. She shares her coop with two other hens. They have plenty of room and space. Thanks again.
