Hey everyone! I picked up two 3 month old Easter egger girls last weekend and everything has been great until today I noticed one of my girls’ eyes was covered in blood.

If you look closely at the pics, you can see 3 bumps around the eye (top, bottom and back) her other eye is normal and she is acting normal, eating/drinking, chatting etc.

I’m guessing her sister pecked her last night but am brand new to this so I want to make sure it’s nothing more than that and what I can do to help her!

Judging from the bubbles around the eye and the swelling, I think there may be something more going on. Are they isolated from the rest of your flock? If not they should be for safety.
My eyes aren't what they should be, so perhaps someone like @aart will stop by and take a look.

Very strange.
@rachel2293 was the eye bumpy when you got her?
What does the other eye look like?
I don’t think so but I can’t be positive. The other eye looks normal, here’s a pic

The 2 Easter eggers are the only ones in my flock, they’re my first

Was the 'bad' eye like that when you brought them home?
Did they live together before you got them?
Where did you get them?
It looks like more than just a pecking injury.
I'd flush it with saline and make sure the other bird doesn't peck at it,
segregate birds if necessary.
@Eggcessive @Wyorp Rock any ideas?

No it wasn’t like that when I got them, it started this morning. They did live together prior to me bringing them home. I got them from a friend of a friend who has/breeds chickens. Thanks so much for everyone’s responses and suggestions

Have you had any mosquitoes around lately? The bumps around the eye could be fowl pox scabs. She should be separated in a dog crate or pen with her own food and water. The eye bubbles could be from the injury to the eye and head, but sometimes is seen in a respiratory disease MG. Can you get some Bausch and Lomb or generic saline eye wash at Walmart, or some Vetericyn Wound Spray or Eye Gel at your feed store? Those would be okay to put into the eye and clean it. Then you may use plain Neosporin or Triple Antibiotic Ointment in the eye twice a day after cleaning. If she has fowl pox, you might see mire scabs develop in her or in others. If it is not pox, watch it. There is no treatment for pox, but most go away in 3 weeks.

There were definitely mosquitoes out before I got her, but it has been much cooler this week so they haven’t been out since she’s been with me.

I did rinse with saline earlier today and that cleaned her face up, but the bloody discharge hasn’t stopped. I will separate her and try the antibiotic cream, are you saying to put it in her eye? Or on those bumps around it?

Thank you for the response!

I would use it both in and around :)
