Hello all! I am a somewhat new chicken owner. Little backstory - We got our first flock from a friend last spring and it was nothing but easy for months on end. They were attacked by a bobcat who got into the roof of the coop in December and I was left with 2 hens. Since then I have brought in 10 new chickens and they have been nothing but problems which include mites/bugs, bloody (mucus) poop, respiratory illness, some go in and out of lethargy and a coyote attack injured two that had to be put down last week (we live in the Sonoran Desert, LOTS of predators..) I have one solid layer, an easter egger that I can always tell whose egg it is and she is always right on schedule in the morning. Other than that I have 2 eggs i've received from the other ladies, I don't know who its from. Today I cracked open the unknown egger and it was full of blood. I didn't eat it ha..
They were on CORID for a week, some still get Vetrx at night, then lots of pro-biotics and nutri-drench trying to kick whatever is going on with them the best I can and to my knowledge. I have read on here for hours and hours trying to trouble shoot everything and when I cracked open the egg I finally threw in the towel to make a post about whats going on.
I have 1 rooster, 2 pullets (unknown gender), and 9 hens. Thanks for any advice!

I believe it happens when a blood vessel erupts during the eggs journey through the oviduct. it's not a big deal and it's safe to eat. if you don't like it, just feed to a dog or scramble back to your chickens :)

as for the other issues, I'm sorry you are going through all that! that is a lot. were the new chickens quarantined or adults or chicks or did they come with all the issues? I hope things get easier for you

Okay Im so sorry sounds like you bought a bad batch.

1. The cause of a blood spot is simply a ruptured blood vessel on the yolk's surface as the egg is forming. This is a natural, benign process for both hen and egg. Instances of blood spots can increase when hens in a flock get excited by changes in lighting, changes in temperature, or simply shifting seasons.

2.I would not eat the bloody eggs but Its happened to me and I think its just natural
That's just a blood spot, nothing to worry about
STOP BEATING ME TO EVERYTHING
