Hi there, I got 2 silkie chicks two weeks ago and about a week ago one of them started showing a little bloody patch on it’s head (first pic) which quickly grew into a large lump (following pics). I’ve heard it’s normal for a silkie to have a lump on its head but I’m not sure if this is that kind of lump or if the blood was maybe just from the other chick pecking at it. He/she is acting normal otherwise, but maybe growing a bit slower than the other chick. It was larger than the other chick when I got them and is now considerably smaller

Thanks in advance for any insight!

Is it normal for it to get bloody while it’s growing? I separated her from the other chick and there is nothing in the enclosure for her to injure herself on, unless she just plain smacked her head into the side? It keeps healing and then reopening with blood :(

No, that's looking less and less good. If she's got the hole in her skull like a lot of silkies do it could be increased swelling that keeps causing it to reopen. Is she acting normal and healthy otherwise?

Hoping @Eggcessive might have seen something like this before and have some ideas.

She seems pretty normal otherwise maybe a little more mellow than her buddy (who turns out to be a rooster, so not sure if that has anything to do with him being more active and alert) but she’s eating and drinking fine preening her feathers scratching around etc

Here’s how it’s looking this morning
