This morning we found our white leghorn dead. She was a good layer and 7 months old. When I went to feed them yesterday evening she was already on the roost and didn't care much that I was there. I noticed a couple of days ago that her backside looked dirtier than usual. I found some bloody poo in the coop and run this morning and I am thinking that she may have eatin too much chicken scratch if that is possile. The rest of my hens seem okay. There is no blood in their stools but a little runny. One of my bared rocks has her feathers spread as if she is getting ready to poo but seems normal otherwise. If anyone has any idea of what I may e dealig with please let me know. This is my first flock of chickens and before this they have been very healthy. Thank you!

Chickens can't eat them self to death, so thats ruled out. It could be worms and just yesterday I was reading up about coccidiosis and a symptom is blood in their droppings. Sorry about your loss :(

Thank you. One of my RIR is now pooing blood but they all seem normal. I will treat for cocci and pray for my layers. I will let you all know how we make out.

I have started treating the remander of my girls for cocci. They didn't like being rounded up but took the drenching well. God willing they will all pull through.

The girls seem to be doing fine. We are on day 4 of a 5 day drench with corid. I really wish that I caught this when my white leghorn first got sick. We are praying for the rest of them and now I will atleast know what I'm dealing with if it happens again. Thank you for asking.

Unfortunately there is a definite learning curve with new animals. I read all I can on these threads and save info so I have a quick reference. THanks for letting us know and good luck.
